  42. I need plans to build a tiny two meter transmitter that will operate in
  43. beacon operation on less than a watt.  A ham friend and I plan to launch
  44. this transmitter in model rockets in order to do some experimenting with
  45. ham radio.  I know that controllers for models that operate less than a
  46. watt don't require identification to be given.  Would this apply in this
  47. situation?  Please send me any ideas or references as to how I could build
  48. this device and if and how I will need to use it to transmit identification.

  104. I have a pair of these and I think their great !  I have had 4 other handhelds
  105. previous to this, and this one is by far the best.  Good amout of features, 
  106. easy to use, small, and log battery life.  I would also like to see mods and
  107. other projects for the rig.

  143. Rapid heating is a common problem with HTs.  The HTX-202 isn't nearly
  144. as bad as my TH-78A!  Based upon my experience, the key to the whole
  145. problem is generating adequate air flow across the back of the HT which
  146. is used as its heat sink.  It actually doesn't take much air flow.
  147.  
  148. When clipped to a belt, keep the HT outside of any shirts or jackets so
  149. that when you walk air flows across it.
  150.  
  151. In the car, try rigging a harness for the HT using a coat hanger (or
  152. sheet metal for those more industrious) so that the HT hangs in front
  153. of one of the air vents.  This also tends to make it easier to fiddle
  154. with while driving.  About the worst place for an HT in the car is
  155. between your legs, faceup on the seat.  It will overheat VERY quickly
  156. this way.
  157.  
  158. At home, in the shack, try rigging a stand with a little muffin fan
  159. attached to it.  The stand can either be designed to hold the HT or to
  160. stand behind it.
  161.  
  162. If you have a lot more money to throw around a small amp is useful (be
  163. careful to buy one designed to operate from HT power levels).  It
  164. allows you to run your HT on its lower power setting (~2 watts) and get
  165. a reasonable (5-10 watts) output.  At 2 watts your HT would take
  166. considerably longer to heat up.  An added bonus is that you could run
  167. the HT on high power and get 30-50 watts out when operating from a
  168. fringe area.

  235.   I've tried it out on my AL 560 just see if it works (it does).
  236. There are 2 or 3 couples using our repeaters that regularly usr the DTMF paginging feature.
  237.   Another feature that is handy, We have put pl tones on the output of our
  238. repeaters then when the users enable the pl decode function the squelch only opens when the repeater xmitts. This keeps the intermode frome 152 MHz paging
  239. systems from opening the squelch, which often happens in a metropolitan area.
  240.   Most repeaters will not pass DTMF tones unless some arrangement is made
  241. wherein a dtmf code activates that ability. This depends on the controller
  242. used and how the owners set them up.

  254. system to communicate between a base and two or three mobiles.  I am
  255. looking to purchase some used business band or other trancievers that
  256. would work for this system.  I would like radios with the transmit receive
  257. frequencies already in them, as getting a Business Band liscence from the
  258. FCC would be open to ANY business band freq. except for a couple, since I
  259. will be using my system in a small town.  Any referals, etc would be
